TN 264

TN 264 is a secondary highway located halfway between Cookeville and Lebanon extending south from U.S. 70N (TN 24) in Elmwood near Cordell Hull Lake to TN 96 near Center Hill Lake. Large towns near each end of the route are Carthage to the north and Smithville to the south, and the highway is in Smith and DeKalb Counties.

The highway is in places extremely scenic, located in the western part of the Highland Rim. In the center of the route is Hickman just south of where TN 141 briefly overlaps the route.

Approaching TN 264 on US 70N westbound.

On a dreary March day, a JCT TN 264 assembly greets me on U.S. 70N westbound. It had started out a nice day, but ended in clouds, chill and thunderstorms further south. Note the bridge in the background. The small creek running under that bridge runs beside it in the next photo.

Westbound on U.S. 70N at TN 264,

At the intersection, only the intersecting route assembly is posted. Note the very picturesque scene even in the gray of winter including the little creek.

First northbound reassurance shield on southbound TN 264.

This is quite possibly one of the most beautiful beginnings of a route I've encountered. If the weather had been wetter, the creek on the right would be cascading down the hill instead of barely trickling.

Looking back at the northern end.

Here is looking back at the northern end at U.S. 70N. Note that typical of Tennessee, no end signage is posted.
Beautiful view from TN 264. TN 264 winds up to the gap in the third photo, and here is looking back from the gap towards U.S. 70N. The view here is breathtaking.
