This is looking westbound on U.S. 70N approaching TN 291 in Double Springs. |

Looking at the turnoff. This turned out to be the only route sign that was new, not crammed looking and in decent repair. |

Looking northwest at the first reassurance shield. It is not far to the western terminus, and the scenery changes little along the whole route in this very flat part of the Highland Rim. |

East of the southern terminus is this beat-up reassurance sign on U.S. 70N eastbound. |
The northern end of TN 291 features this dual TN 56 assembly with a Mile 2 marker for TN 291 underneath, meaning the route is exactly 2.0 miles long. Martin Creek Road continues ahead eventually connecting to TN 96. |
The junction assembly on TN 56 southbound looks more like it could fit the midwest than the south with the pancake-flat terrain, open countryside and lane-width wide shoulders. Tennessee is to knowledge the only southern state that builds two lanes with these kinds of shoulders. |
Also looking south on TN 56 is the turn-off with Martin Creek Road to the right. Much like Double Springs, Bloomington Springs is a community pretty much void of anything except a country store, which is partly seen in the next photo. |
Here is the first southbound reassurance shield with an old-school "Phone" sign next to the small store. |
